Coast Cleanup Day

Saturday, September 15, 2018, 9AM-NOON

The Annual Upper Newport Bay Cleanup Day is a shining example of partnership in action. Roughly 1,000 people venture out into the marsh from the land and the water to remove over 20,000 lbs. of trash and recyclables.  Individuals, families, and groups are all welcome. For a full list of all cleanup sites in Orange County, visit Orange County Coastkeeper’s website.

SPREAD THE WORD: Click here to download/share the event flyer.

LAND CLEANUP: Over 700 volunteers to help remove trash from the uplands and marsh areas of the Bay and do some native plant restoration. These volunteers meet at the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center. Shuttle service is provided to other areas of the Bay (along Back Bay Drive, Bayview, etc). Click here to register for this location.

Conserve Water: Rain barrels are a great way to conserve water! Rebate information can be found at SoCal Water$mart.com. Rain Barrels Intl. will be on hand again distributing rain barrels for Orange County Residents. Only $10 after rebate; orders must be placed online at least a week before Cleanup Day. Share the details with your friends, coworkers and family with this flyer.

What to wear/bring: Everyone should wear old clothes and close-toed shoes because you will get dirty. Feel free to bring your own gloves and/or bucket if you have them to help pick up trash. It also helps for the land-based cleanup if you have tall/rubber boots or water shoes so you can get into the mud and reach those hard to get pieces that may be not as accessible when wearing regular sneakers. Please bring a reusable/refillable water bottle so we can reduce our plastic use. Be sure to bring your completed waiver to the event; minors need a guardian’s signature.

We need your support! It takes a small army of staff, volunteers and supplies to mobilize 1,000 people for the day. Download our sponsorship packet and see how your team can support the Bay.
